Since 1939, families in Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois have been relying on Hansen-Gravitt Funeral Home in Beloit, Wisconsin with planning dignified and affordable, burial and cremation services.

The funeral home was founded by the partnership of Mathias J. "Mat" Hansen and Otto Schoenfeld. The funeral home opened it's doors for business on the corner of Portland Avenue and Fourth Street in Beloit. In July of 1945 the partnership was severed due to the ill health of Mr. Schoenfeld. Mat and his wife Winifred continued to operate the funeral home for more than thirty-five years in several locations in Beloit.

During the early years of the funeral home, Mat worked at the Beloit Iron Works while operating the funeral home. Winnie played the organ at many of the weddings and funerals that took place in Beloit and the surrounding communities. In 1974, Mat and Winnie Hansen decided it was time to retire and sold the business to their son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Marlene Hansen. Mat continued to help his son for almost another twenty years.

During the next thirty-five years the business continued to flurish, largely due to the generosity and kindness of the Hansen Family. Jerome "Jerry" Hasen worked for many years at the funeral home with his brother Bob and their father. Bob's wife Marlene worked at his side for many years as a licensed beautician.

In December of 2006, Bob and Marlene Hansen met with Jay and Kelly Gravitt and decided it was time that a new genreration take the business into the future. On May 10, 2007 the transfer of ownership was complete and the business became known as Hansen-Gravitt Funeral Home.

Hansen-Gravitt Funeral Home is now in its third generation of independent, family ownership, and still takes pride in providing affordable services with honor, dignity, and trust. This site has been created to help our families, their friends and neighbors find funeral service information, online obituaries, information about our staff, the many types of services we provide, as well as price information, and links to local businesses, government agencies, and grief resources.

If you are unable to find the answers to any of your questions, we are available 24 hours a day at 608-362-6044 or you may email any questions to jgravitt@hansengravitt.com. It would be our privilege to help you anyway, we can.

Respectfully, Jay & Kelly Gravitt
