Life Legacy
Myrtle L. Scheibel, 99, of South Beloit, Illinois, died, Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Fair Oaks Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in South Beloit.
The former Myrtle Leona West was born on October 26, 1910, in Shannon County, Missouri, the daughter of James Clarence and Mary Clementine (Brawley) West. Myrtle met Clarence Elmer Franklin Scheibel while he was establishing an Angora Goat Farm in Missouri and married in August of 1929. They then moved to Davis, Illinois where Clarence became the principal of school system, and they welcomed the birth of their son, Russell George in October of 1930. While Clarence continued his career in teaching and school administration, the Scheibels lived in Buckley, Illinois, Beloit, Wisconsin, Monroe Center, Illinois, and Durand, Illinois. In 1940, Myrtle and her family moved to South Beloit, Illinois, where she and Clarence began the Scheibel Insurance Agency which continued until Clarence's death on December 27, 1971.
Myrtle is survived by her son, Russell George Scheibel of South Beloit, sister, Dolly Mae Elledge of Licking, Missouri, several godchildren including special godsons, Rueben (Patricia) Sarabia of South Beloit, and Enoch (Debra) Sarabia of South Beloit, along with numerous, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, an older sister while Myrtle was just a little girl, and four brothers, Clarence and James West, and Cecil and Junior Martin.
Myrtle’s son, Russell, thanks the staff at Fair Oaks for the excellent and compassionate care they gave his mother during the past two years.
Memorial services are 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 4, 2010, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1305 South Blackhawk Blvd in South Beloit with Reverend Dell Olson officiating. A private committal at Eastlawn Cemetery in Beloit will take place prior to the service. Hansen-Gravitt Funeral Home in Beloit, Wisconsin is honored to be serving the family.
